Defining Minds

Defining Minds, LLC focuses on identifying and treating the underlying cause of a student’s learning problem.  When a child is struggling academically, repetition of subject matter is typically not enough.  The student’s cognitive tools must be sharpened.  Deficits in the underlying cognitive skills that are required to achieve academic success are the likely root of the problem.  These abilities include, but are not limited to, processing speed working memory, attention, listening comprehension, visual processing speed, working memory, attention, listening, comprehension, visual processing, executive functioning, logic and reasoning, and integration of skills.  Each child is evaluated using a series of assessment tools to determine what learning program is right for them.  Sharing current psycho-educational testing results and/or other professional evaluations that may have been previously conducted is also helpful in determining the student’s learning style and program compatibility.  With the right program the student can experience significant improvement in reading, spelling, comprehension, memory, attention, math, social skills, and other areas of academic and personal success.  We custom-design a program specially for your child using an array of research-based solutions.  Through this comprehensive approach, we are better able to service your child’s unique individual needs.  Programs are designed to last three to nine months.
